Clinical, veterinary and laboratory diagnostics require the use of dyes, stains, buffer solutions and reagents for performance of analytical work. Manufacturers of those support solutions for hematology, histology, cytology and microbiology analytical work formulate various degrees and concentrations of such solutions. The vast majority of the marketed solutions are formulated with a percentage of high purity water. In order to preserve the integrity of the solutions the water used in the formulations must meet certain criteria for mineral impurities, organic content, bacteria and pH. They are typically classified as reagent grade water and meet stringent published standards such as defined by ASTM and CLSI.
In order to provide products of this nature most specialty manufacturers produce large batches of their formulations to control costs. The system depicted in this project brief supplies multiple batch tanks in this manufacturing facility with reagent grade water meeting CLSI published standards for Clinical Laboratory Reagent Water (CLRW). The system provides a distribution flow rate of 40 gallons per minute which minimizes batch formulation times.
Filter & Water Technologies field service technicians provide complete maintenance for the system including replacement of exchange deionizer tanks, ultraviolet lamps, final filters, etc. thereby allowing the manufacturer to concentrate on product formulation.
