About the Project

A global leader in pharmaceuticals was expanding, adding 300,000 square feet to its New York corporate headquarters for research and development purposes. Two new buildings were to accommodate over 300 employees, supporting expansion of the company’s core business.

These interconnected buildings, comprising three wings, shared utilities like laboratory gases and purified water. The centralized purified water system delivers ASTM Reagent Grade Water to the laboratories. Filter & Water Technologies contributed to the design and subsequently undertook the fabrication and installation of the central water purification system and multiple distribution systems.

ASTM water systems are sophisticated and complex. The central purified water system features redundant pretreatment equipment—multimedia filters, water softeners, carbon filters, and reverse osmosis units. This pretreatment equipment supplies makeup water to three separate storage tanks, serving each of the individual wings.

Each storage tank integrates post-treatment components: alternating VFD-controlled distribution pumps, exchange service type mixed bed deionizers, ultraviolet disinfection systems, and final 0.2 micron filters. Each wing operates its own PLC-operated control panel with a color touchscreen displaying the process flow diagram of its respective distribution system.
